Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil: for thou art with me;

thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Psalm 23:4 (KJV)

The Valley Walk of a Shepherded Christian

  1. An abiding Christian’s valley is a valley of the shadow of death (Job 38:17, Jeremiah 13:16), not death.
    • These two types of valleys are quite different.  Why be afraid of a shadow?
  2. There is no shadow without light, right?   Who is the light?  The Lord!
    • With ‘light’ (1 John !:5-6), you shall fear no evil.
    • Thou art with you.  A Shepherded Christian isn’t walking solo.  You were given a spirit of power, not ‘a spirit of fear’ (1 Timothy 1:7).   Therefore, only those who are lost and alone should be fearful!
    • If you accept Jesus Christ as your personal savior, you have nothing to fear.  Nothing!  Keep walking with confidence.
  3. You are walking through the valley.
    • The important word here is through.  Walking through a valley indicates that the Walker, the Shepherded Christian, is making progress and moving forward.  They are not lost or stuck.
    • Others are simply ‘in the valley’.
  4. Shepherded Christians in a valley are walking to a ‘mountain’.  They are moving towards a high point outside the valley.
    • When you are in such a situation, you should be encouraged and hopeful.  While at a low point, in the valley, you trust that your God-guided steps will take you to a high point ‘when all things work together’ – i.e. when you get to the mountain.
    • Be encouraged, you are a blessed child of God.

SCRIPTURE

  • Psalm 23: 4

Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,

I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. (KJV)

  • 1 John 1: 5-6

This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you:

God is light; in him there is no darkness at all.  If we claim to have fellowship with him and yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live out the truth. (NIV)

  • 2 Timothy 1: 7

For God has not given us a spirit of fear,

but of power and of love and of a sound mind. (NKJV)

  • Isaiah 9: 2

The people walking in darkness
have seen a great light;
on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned. (NIV)

  • Job 38: 17

Have the gates of death been revealed to you?
Or have you seen the doors of the shadow of death? (NKJV)

Peace be with you.
