Defeats: Bittersweet, but Revealing

Maya_at_wheelock_14276932486_1940e8784f_bMaya Angelou (1928 – 2014), who passed away earlier this year at the age of 86, was a very spiritual woman.   The poet, author, and singer was a very wise woman too.   Angelou said, on the issue of not being victorious:

“You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated.   In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it.”

  • As I noted in a prior post, Your Stories: The Roots of your Christian Life (LINK):

While all Christians face Victories and Defeats in their life, the way they handle defeats is a better indicator of who they truly are.   What you have personally ‘been through’, endured, and achieved is revealed in your stories.   Know the stories, know the man.
